Charles Dickens’s notes from America. Dickens’s entertaining Notes on America is achingly funny in parts, deeply touching in others and] fearlessly outspoken. His trenchant criticism of slavery made him more enemies than friends but over 5,000 queued to buy tickets for his readings. Richard Field taught English at Shrewsbury School for over 30 years. Harold has performed at the Gateway on many enjoyable occasions giving extensive recitals from a broad repertoire. His programme will include works by Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. He was for many years head of the music department at a midlands college. Harold Taylor is a distinguished pianist specialising in works in the Romantic tradition. Join local Archaeologist Dr Nigel Baker on a journey of discovery around Shrewsbury’s river loop in Canoes and Bellboats. Looking at the town’s medieval defences and castle, lost streams, ancient fords, historic wharfs, Victorian health hazards and much more. Participants should be aware that although we start at Frankwell the finish point is at Shrewsbury Weir. No previous paddling experience is required. Participants should be dressed in suitable outdoor clothing and soft soled shoes.

Shropshire Youth Theatre - week of theatre/acting workshops. A mysterious map has been found in an attic in Shrewsbury and it looks like it might lead to buried treasure! Join Shrewsbury Youth Theatre instructor Cathie Woodbury to solve the meaning of the map. In one week we will create a play from beginning to end including costumes and lighting.
