Join local Archaeologist Dr Nigel Baker on a journey of discovery around Shrewsbury’s river loop in Canoes and Bellboats. Looking at the town’s medieval defences and castle, lost streams, ancient fords, historic wharfs, Victorian health hazards and much more. Participants should be aware that although we start at Frankwell the finish point is at Shrewsbury Weir. No previous paddling experience is required. Participants should be dressed in suitable outdoor clothing and soft soled shoes.

Over 4 million men were demobilised between 1945 and 1947 and the talk deals with the thorny topic of returning heroes – a problem that we still face today. Julie Summers has interviewed over 100 women and in this book she tells their side of the story.
