On the following pages are suggestions for the circular walk around Shrewsbury. It will cover a few of the key attractions. The tour is by no means comprehensive but intended to whet your appetite and give visitors a possible enticement to want to see more. And there is much more, with over 600 listed buildings in the town, it’s not possible to cover everything.
If you prefer escorted guided walks these can be arranged via the Visitor (Tourist) Information Centre here.
The town centre plan is something of a Medieval maze - many of the streets are linked by alleyways, known as 'shuts’, which are great fun for those exploring on foot, but not in vehicles. If you arrive by car, you may prefer to use one of the Park & Ride schemes, rather than to negotiate the complex one-way system. See car park details on our Location page.
The actual walk takes you up and down hills and includes some steps, so may cause some problems for those with limited mobility.
The whole walk will take you at least two hours - allow more time if you intend to visit attractions on the way.
We have split the walk into a series of short pages, designed so you can print them off and bring with you when you visit.
